NAMI Sonoma County
was a recipient of a 2010 Jefferson Award for Excellence in Community Leadership and Civic Engagement.
The award was presented at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

The local program was designed to highlight the value of non-profit organizations, boards, commissions and advisory bodies, as well as individual efforts for Excellence in Community Leadership and Civic Engagement. The County of Sonoma is proud of and grateful to these agencies and individuals for their outstanding service to our community.

Experts say about one in four adults in the United States suffers from a mental disorder or illness in a given year. Many have their first experiences with it as teens or young adults, when it may be difficult to distinguish teen-age angst from severe disturbances, and before they have the education or life experience to understand what's going on. This is a story of how NAMI is helping the healing process through schools outreach.
